
IPSOS-KCPF Perceptions Study
KCPF commissioned IPSOS to conduct a study to assess public perceptions on abortion, homosexuality and 2010 Constitution. The results were released on 28th August 2020, in a media release which attracted all the major media houses. The issues that were explored were; Abortion, Homosexuality, 2010 Constitution and Parenting. We noted the following observations and findings:
Only 37% of Kenyans support the recent calls to have the 2010 Constitution amended. About 38% of Kenyans across the country have not even heard of the recent calls to amend the Constitution.
There is an inordinately large number of teenage pregnancies in Kenya, and the cause is an inordinately high sexual activity among minors. From our survey, over 90% of the respondents believe that parents have primary responsibility for carrying out sex education of their children.
85% of Kenyans are against the legalization of abortion in all instances. A further 9% of Kenyans also reject abortion on request but would allow abortion in some cases like to protect a mother’s life.
85% of Kenyans believe that homosexual behaviour is something that people learn as they grow up. Article 45 of the Constitution of Kenya affirms that marriage is for two adult persons of the opposite sex.
